Every one has negative or limiting thoughts pop into their head and these thoughts can come rapid fire when you are working toward a goal. These thoughts are not present to make your life miserable, they are simply a way your brain attempts to protect you from the discomfort of change. I have experimented with many ways to calm these damaging thoughts and what seems to work the best for myself and my clients is really a very simple trick. I ask clients to start tuning into these limiting thoughts, “I don’t think I can lose this Fat.” “Every time I try to lose I end up failing and eating more…why even try.”
When they get good at recognizing the negative thoughts I have them disrupt the thought quickly by saying CANCEL. When you disrupt the thought you rob it of it’s power to influence you.
Now this technique is simple but if you are like most people you will feel like you are being bombarded by negative thoughts at first and you will find yourself saying cancel over and over again. This is fine and I assure you the negative thoughts will quickly become more manageable.
