I often hear this from people, “I start exercising but I’m not losing Fat”. The problem in the beginning of an exercise program is that often people do not begin to lose Fat but begin to lose clothes sizes. What is the reason for this? Well, actually your body is replacing fat with muscle.
Muscle tissue actually weighs more than fatty tissue, which is why initially you may be working out hard, but not losing Fat. This is nothing to worry about because eventually as your body begins to accumulate a significant amount of muscle mass, you will reach a point of diminishing returns in the amount of muscle your body will build.
Once you reach that point your body will start decreasing in Fat because fat cells will begin to be burned. Many people get discouraged with an exercise program because they are not losing Fat at the beginning and they give up too soon. Had they only stuck with it for another couple months they would have begun to see more Fat loss.
It is actually very important during the initial stages of exercise for your body to build muscle that will enable you to perform the activities you are engaged in. If your body were not to build additional muscle it would break down because the repeated motions involved in exercise needs strong muscles to keep you from injuring yourself.
So if you are one of those individuals who is getting involved in exercise to see immediate Fat loss, I suggest you get rid of your scale for the first couple months. You will start to feel healthier and you will lose clothes sizes within the first month or two but if you were to step on the scale you may be discouraged to see that you haven’t really lost that much Fat.
