<p>Never before has image been so important. Take a look around and you&#8217;ll know exactly what I mean. Everywhere from advertising billboards to TV adverts you see people who have worked all their lives to keep themselves in shape and looking good. There are billions of pounds spent on advertising every year to sell products and you know as well as I do, nothing sells an expensive pair of jeans like someone thin. Supermodels are super-thin. Some may not like the look of them and it may not sound nice but when have you ever seen an overFat obese person strutting down the catwalk?<span id="more-2334"></span></p>
<p>Is it impossible to achieve this? Some people would have you believe that it is but I&#8217;m one of the few people who believe that anything is possible should you want it bad enough. Putting on Fat is really easy and let&#8217;s face it, everyone loves their food. Who doesn&#8217;t like going out for a nice meal or even treating yourself to some chocolate and sweets at the weekend when settling down to watch a good film? Everyone is different. I understand that. There are people who can eat and eat and never put the Fat on. Then there are others who eat a 6oz burger and put on 4oz of Fat the next day. It doesn&#8217;t seem fair.</p>
<p>So the next big question is&#8230;what can you do about it? At times when you think about it it feels like you&#8217;re stuck between a rock and a hard place. You love to eat but don&#8217;t want to put on Fat. Hmmm? Where do we go from here?</p>
<p>Believe it or not, there is a way. You can love the food you eat and be confident that you&#8217;re not shovelling a bucket load of fat down your gullet. Staying thin and healthy can depend on a lot of things and exercise is only part of it. You can exercise all you want but if all you&#8217;re going to do it eat one chocolate bar after another then it&#8217;s a lost cause, isn&#8217;t it? Have you ever tried a balanced diet? It&#8217;s possible to have a good meal full of the vitamins your body needs. You&#8217;ll feel full at the end of it but satisfied that the meal was a healthy one. And I&#8217;m not just talking about one meal a day here. I&#8217;m talking about a good breakfast, a good lunch and a good dinner. It almost sounds too good to be true but there are people out there who have done it. If they can then so can you. All you need is the will power to do that. <p>As you may know, setting clear and specific SMART goals is one of the best things you can do to take the first step towards slimming success. Yet what use are goals without action?</p>
<p>Action is the stuff that dreams are made of. Of course you need to know what you want and the steps involved. Then you need to take the first step&#8230; and then the second step and keep on stepping till you get there.<br />

Action can be difficult at times. It can be challenging to keep up your momentum after a long time or with a goal that is a very big change for you. This is where accountability comes in.</p>
<p>There was a study done in the 1920s that shows the effects of accountability on performance. A psychologist came into an electrical plant to study the effect of light conditions on the workers&#8217; productivity. In the first trial he increased the lighting and productivity rose, he then brought in more lighting and in each test the productivity rose, he was about to conclude that higher light levels do improve productivity, when he turned off all the extra lights and productivity rose again, he then lowered the light to well below what it was in the beginning and it rose again. He did not understand what was happening until he found out from a worker that they had been told that an efficiency expert was testing them.</p>
<p>The workers were working more efficiently regardless of the light conditions because they knew they were being monitored and tested. This has come to be known as the Hawthorne effect, after the name of the factory. A modern example of the Hawthorne effect is how much more cautiously you drive when being followed by a policeman, or how much better you eat, when you&#8217;re keeping a food-diary.</p>
<p>Simply the act of being accountable to someone for your actions improves performance time and again. This is one reason why having a training buddy or personal trainer who you work out with will improve your performance. If you don&#8217;t show up, you are letting your training buddy down and they are going to be calling you to find out where you are. Who could be your training buddy?</p>

You hear your close friends telling you how they lost the Fat and then gained more Fat within no time as the thousand watt lamp of motivation faded within no time inducing them to gain more Fat. So how to build up this much desired motivation? The most important key is motivation, this keeps the lamp burning and enables you to glow as a slim, trim fat-free collection of healthy bones. Even modest amounts of Fat loss can improve your health significantly. <p>3. Do the things you want to do and like doing. Exercising is naturally a big part of you getting a slim, fit and healthy body. Cardio exercises are a part of that but it doesn&#8217;t mean that you would have to run 5 miles a day.</p>

<p>1. Commit to one thing and do it well. A big problem for many who find it hard to get motivated is that they look at the job ahead and feel overwhelmed. You do not have to do everything perfect right from the start. Choose one healthy task such as keeping a daily food journal or walking the dog every day and do it well. By the end of the week you will build a sense of getting back in control and you will be ready and willing to add more tasks.</p>
<p>2. Find a mentor. Identify someone in your life or someone that you do not know personally but have heard who has lost fat and use this person as your role model. It seems too simple but you will find that this helps you move through challenges because you can say to yourself, &#8220;If he/she was able to do it, then I can to.&#8221;</p>
<p>3. Focus on what you are getting from this deal. You are giving up sitting on the couch or eating sweets in the middle of the day but you are getting a thin healthy body that moves with ease and fights off disease. Train your focus on the positive and you will stay motivated.</p>

It is no wonder then that so many people &#8220;fall off the wagon,&#8221; so to speak, at one time or another on their Fat loss journey. To make the effort less tedious and to keep yourself motivated, you should make it a habit to reward yourself for your efforts every now and then.<br />

What you can do is to write down small, short-term goals that you want to achieve. Let&#8217;s say you and your doctor decide that a loss of one pound a week is something you can do, or that doing some brisk walking one hour three times a week is your exercise regimen to start with. If at the end of the week you are able to meet those goals, then treat yourself to something small and yet significant enough to make you feel good.</p>
<p>A massage is a good example of a small yet satisfying reward. Or add to it a bit and get a manicure and a pedicure too, something that will make you feel pampered. Or maybe you can purchase certain items that will inject more fun into your efforts to lose Fat. Examples of these may include new exercise clothing, colorful new workout accessories like dumbbells or exercise balls &#8212; maybe even some new motivational books or DVD&#8217;s.</p>
<p>Some people reward themselves with a serving of their favorite food after they reach a certain short-term goal: a slice of cake, perhaps, or some ice cream. The reasoning behind this is that it prevents negative feelings of food deprivation. Others believe that such self-reward methods shouldn&#8217;t be attempted very early on, when the Fat loss regimen is only a few weeks or months old as they can be too much of a temptation that can lead to overindulgence.</p>
<p>As you progress on your Fat loss journey, you will find yourself ticking off more and more short-term goals on your list and moving closer and closer to your ultimate goal. Remember, you also have to have a long-term Fat loss goal reward, one that you will only indulge in after you have reached your target Fat. It must be something you desire enough to work hard for, something that will reinforce the satisfaction you will feel in having achieved your goal.</p>

<p>When attempting to lose Fat one of the most difficult things to maintain is Fat loss motivation. There are a few good tips and tricks to keep you in the proper frame of mind and on the right track.</p>
<p>It&#8217;s really important to have someone to diet or exercise with. You are both in there challenge and encourage each other. When you know that your exercise buddy is going to be at the gym or the local track waiting for you you&#8217;re more apt to get out of bed.<br />

Develop an achievable and realistic Fat loss plan. It&#8217;s easy to get discouraged and quit if you&#8217;re trying to lose 10 pounds a week for 3 weeks. It&#8217;s also not very healthy.</p>
<p>But if your plan is to lose 2 pounds per week for 15 weeks that&#8217;s doable. Even if you have one rough week you can make it up.</p>
<p>Don&#8217;t weigh yourself everyday. That can be discouraging. There are too many factors that can affect one day. Instead weigh yourself once a week. This will be more indicative of what you&#8217;ve really accomplished.</p>
<p>Allow yourself to eat something sinful from time to time. It&#8217;s not necessary to totally eliminate pizza or ice cream from your diet. Just cut back. Instead of eating half a bag of chips put a handful on a plate and put the bag away.</p>
<p>If you have a picture of when you were heavier keep it in view. This reminds you of a place you don&#8217;t want to go back to. It also gives you encouragement for how far you&#8217;ve come.</p>
<p>Also from time to time refer to a picture of yourself when you were thinner. It may not be realistic to get back to your high school Fat but gives you inspiration knowing that you were thinner once.</p>
<p>If that&#8217;s not possible then practice daily visualization. Also look at your written goal. These really can have a positive affect on you and give you a consistent Fat loss motivation.</p>
<p>If you&#8217;ve reached your original goals or are close then reevaluate them. Change them a little or set them a little higher. Work out a little longer. Pick up the pace of your bicycle rides or your walks. Improve upon the Fat you can lift.</p>
<p>Maybe you&#8217;ve cut back on the beer you drink or the pizza you eat but can even do more. These little goals can challenge and continue to motivate.</p>

<p>Staying motivated on my fitness goals is hard. I, for one, do not have instant motivation. I read many self help books, find inspiring quotes I even put up sticky notes all over my office and house to remind me of my goals. I have a goals/dream board by my computer with pictures of what I&#8217;m working towards. Yup, motivation starts first with a little inspiration that I sprinkle in my life and lifestyle. But, still, that can type can be short lived. How can you stay focused and motivated to stay on top of your fitness game? I ask this question over and over each day and I have to continue to reinforce my goals.<span id="more-483"></span></p>
<p>From The Very Start</p>
<p>Keep a journal that serves as a reminder and also for you to stay accountable to yourself. It&#8217;s a great tool to have so you can review at the end of each day to check and make sure the action steps actually done against the goals that you listed. For me, it&#8217;s like a personal feedback reminder. <p>One of the hardest things any dieter faces is keeping themselves motivated whilst they are trying to lose Fat. Let&#8217;s face it, there are so many distractions and temptations that it can be really difficult to keep yourself focused and on your diet.<span id="more-237"></span></p>
<p>In order for you to successfully lose Fat, you need to have a compelling reason why to do it. People who have these compelling reasons are the people who succeed. Those who don&#8217;t are the people who spend years struggling with their Fat, never feeling completely happy with themselves or their lives.</p>
<p>So how do you get this level of motivation in order for you to not only lose the Fat but to keep it off as well?</p>
<p>The answer is to find reasons for you to lose Fat. Not just any reasons, like &#8220;because I want to fit in a dress&#8221; or &#8220;because I&#8217;m overFat&#8221; or &#8220;because I should&#8221;.</p>
<p>You want reasons that electrify you and set your brain on fire with your desire to achieve them!</p>
<p>You have to find reasons that are totally motivating and focusing for you such as &#8220;If I don&#8217;t lose Fat then I&#8217;ll die of a heart attack like my father which means I won&#8217;t be able to see my baby boy grow up, get married and have children&#8221;. How&#8217;s that for a motivating reason?</p>
<p>What motivates you is different from what motivates the person next to you and the person next to them. It is a highly individual thing and you have to sit down and come up with some highly motivating reasons of your own.</p>
<p>When doing this, any reason that has a &#8217;should&#8217; or an &#8216;ought&#8217; attached to it is not motivating enough. Shoulds and Oughts are not reasons, they are excuses! If you should do something then it means you don&#8217;t want to do it but feel you have to out of a sense of obligation or guilt! That&#8217;s not going to motivate you, is it?</p>
<p>What reasons do you have for losing Fat?</p>
<p>Do you have children?</p>
<p>Do you have a big date, wedding or other event?</p>
<p>Have you been warned by your doctor about your Fat?</p>
<p>Get yourself some paper and start to write down all the reasons why you must lose Fat. Write everything down, don&#8217;t stop, you can sort them out afterwards.</p>
<p>Once you have written them all down then discard any that are shoulds or oughts and keep the motivating ones. Then see if you can phrase them in a really positive manner which provides you with massive motivation.</p>
<p>When you have finished this, pick the top three to five reasons and write them out on a piece of card or paper in your neatest handwriting. You then need to stick it somewhere you will see it every morning or carry it around with you. It depends on your living arrangements as to which you do.</p>
<p>What is important is that every day you read these reasons in the morning and in the evening. Ideally do it just before bed and just after you get up. This will program your sub-conscious mind with your reasons and motivate you to lose Fat permanently.</p>
<p>When you do this every day you will find your motivation increasing, dieting becoming easier and your Fat literally dropping off you.</p>
